ALL IS WORMS-Preview Art Exhibit

HOW TO BUILD A HUMANPreview Book

Each work serves to explore the idea that all is one, cough, cough… I mean all is worms.

In San Francisco, a covert startup called the Rebirth Project has just performed the world’s first human resurrection. The problem is, they’re out of cash.

To save the project, a biotech mogul buys a controlling stake, and only because she has just lost her son to a tragic drunk-driving suicide. Unwilling to accept death as his final destiny, her unrelenting expectations bare down on a team as they try to build the impossible.

Only one person suspects something sinister, and it’s the deceased’s AA sponsor, Hector Herrera. On forced sobriety leave from the SFPD and living out of his truck, Hector follows a hunch that leads him deep into the grotesque underbelly of Silicon Valley’s longevity elite. Through near future tech and wily characters, Hector faces the blurry line between life and death until he’s forced to

is the way his grandma wrote his name.
That’s it, that is all.

ALL IS WORMS is an exploration of self, and nothing more.

ALL IS WORMS

I saw the fabric of the universe in the cross section of an orange.
Little worms writhing and wriggling.

“Smash it on my face,” said my friend.

Yes, we were on something.
Yes, it was my first time.

I smiled and squished my half into his nose like a human juicer.

“Now, me,” I said.

Euphoria.
Orange worms running down my chin.

Again and again we squished them until the worms spilled onto the ground.
That’s when they started crawling. They changed color too, and seemingly their form.
Soon, they had become the leaves on the ground and the bark on the trees. Even the stars that hid behind the wispy clouds took to slithering.

“All is worms,” my friend said to me, his orange skin writhing and wormlike.

“All is worms,” I repeated, and each time, and even still, euphoria.

The way it began

The way it began

An orange a day
keeps the illusion at bay.
One piece, two piece,
smash, smash, smash.
Euphoria.

The way it used to feel

Before the worms, and after too, life felt like a canyon.
Minutes wore away the rock like wind and water
and the further I went, the deeper the canyon grew.
Light struggled to reach me at a certain point and a choice was forced upon me.
Trudge on, deeper still, and hope for a clearing ahead.
Or, climb the walls. Find the light.
An entire lifetime can pass in this conundrum.
What you never know, until you try, is that the canyon is you.
It doesn’t want to lead you to darkness.
It wants to help you climb out.
Witnessing your efforts, the canyon encourages the tree to grow along the rock wall with footing enough to reach the next ledge.
Even the birds soaring above the plateau call for you to follow them.
“It’s all worms,” they sing.
It’s all you.
You can do this.

The way it could be

You don’t have to know that you are a sunrise to enjoy its beauty.
But can you imagine?
The whole world waking from your shining light?
When the world feels solid, and you become immovable,
Force yourself up to see a sunrise.
Its glory arrives each new day.
It beckons to you,
“This is the way it could be.”

The way I remember it

The way I remember it

Squint your eyes just right and watch the mountains move.
They squirm and ooze and shift and even disappear.
“All is worms,” you say.
Then it hits you, why you placed the mountains there in the first place.
It had to be this way, and it was always perfect.
You just needed to stop squinting to see it all.

The way

The way

The way is the same for everyone.
There is only one way, just as there is only one true story;
The story we tell ourselves.
A tale of fear and of conquest.
A tale that seeks only one truth.
“Why am I here?”
But in the way, we find the story.
And in the story, we find our way,
Our why.
